Dear All

It is my sad duty to inform you that Mrs Arlene Lodrick the wife of our President, died yesterday following a long illness. No other details are known at this time. I have sent flowers on behalf of the Association to David and his family.

May Arlene rest in peace and rise with Christ in Glory.

PLEASE FIND BELOW THE FOLLOWING FROM MR LODRICK'S DAUGHTER

Family and Friends,
Thank you so much for wonderful messages and cards. We have been overwhelmed by messages of love and kindness at this time and so we hope you will forgive us not replying to you individually.
We are now able to confirm that Mummy’s funeral will take place at 10am on Friday 21 December. There will be a Requiem Mass at the Sacred Heart Church in Waterlooville after which we will make our way to the South Downs Natural Burial Site. There will be a woodland burial service at around midday and Mummy will be laid to rest.
We hope very much that you will be able to join us afterwards for a light lunch at the Farmer Inn in Catherington. You are most welcome to travel there after the church service, if you are unable to attend mummy’s burial.
Please take time to read the information below for travel details and arrangements for the day itself.
We would be really grateful if you could let us know as soon as practicable whether you will be attending so that we can finalise numbers for the day.
Whilst it will, in essence, be a sad day, we look forward to being together with you to celebrate Mummy’s life, which was lived adventurously and so joyously. We want the day to reflect her life.
With our love,
Julie and Damiain

Between Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 19 December
You are more than welcome to visit Mummy in her closed casket at the Chapel of Rest at the South Downs Funeral Home.
The Chapel is open between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

What to wear
No sombre colours, please!
IMPORTANT - You will need to bring wellington boots or stout outdoor footwear for the woodland burial. The ground is firm but it is rather muddy and a warm waterproof outer coat would also be advisable.

Flowers
No flowers at the church please, but it would be lovely if you could bring a single long-stem flower (not wrapped in cellophane) with you for the burial. Mummy’s favourite flowers were roses.

Notes for the South Downs Burial Site
On arrival you will wish to change your footwear and then you will be asked to gather by the Sustainability Centre where guests will receive a briefing prior to the internment service
Mummy’s plot is a short 4 minute walk from the Centre. It is downhill and if wet, a little slippery
Mummy’s plot is just off the narrow path and with a large number of people gathered, it may be difficult for everyone to see. If you are able, you are welcome to move up the banking a little
There are a couple of 4x4 vehicle available to take guests who cannot walk to within 100 metres of the plot. Please let us know if you would like to be driven to the plot
As the weather may be inclement, you are more than welcome to wait in the Sustainability Centre during the short service

The Rowans Hospice
As many of you may know, our local hospice provided wonderful care and support in the last month of Mummy’s life and she referred to them as ‘The Angels’. Mummy was given the most loving and tender care by the nursing team and it was such a comfort to us to see her as comfortable as possible.
If you wish to give a donation you can do so in one of two ways:
Make a cheque payable to The Rowans Hospice and give it to us in an envelope on the day or send it to the South Downs Funeral Service (address above) who will pass them onto The Rowans
Make a donation online at:

Accommodation
We are mindful that some of you are planning to travel a distance to Hampshire to be with us for the day. We are sorry that we are unable to provide any accommodation and so we thought it might be helpful to let you know of some local hotels / bed and breakfasts if you wish to stay overnight.

I thought the Association would like to know that it was well represented at the Funeral of the wife of the President David Lodrick yesterday Friday 21 December 2018. The Vice-Chairman Nigel Carpenter, Willie Dick, Colin Gent, Eddie Widnall Jnr, Kate Widnall, Dick Aylott, David Addis and wives were in attendance. Provost Marshall Navy Jack Hawkins also attended. Also John Hannah who served with David on the Bristol and Ark Royal
David has asked that members be aware that he and the families appreciated all the kind words that have been sent to the family and thanked those who attended the service.

PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Our President, David Lodrick, has requested me to convey his deep thanks to the membership for their kind thoughts and messages, sympathies, prayers, flowers and generous donations to the Rowans Hospice in Purbrook, Hampshire during his beloved wife Arlene’s illness and her subsequent demise.

He felt truly blest with the outpouring of strength, comfort and support he received from his many, many friends in the Association during this sad and exceedingly painful time in his life – especially by those who were able to attend the funeral in Waterlooville.

Most regrettably, he is unable to respond individually to all well-wishers but to them, he sends his warmest heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation.

He also sends his warmest wishes to all members of the Association for a Blessed Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
